Mann's School of Motoring or MSM for short (mirror, signal, manoeuvre) is a driving school based in the North of Sheffield, covering the S6, S10, S35 and S36 postcodes.

Offering manual car training for new / lapsed learners or drivers wanting a refresher to boost their confidence to get them back on the road.

I am a fully qualified DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) approved driving instructor, with a calm and patient manner, fully committed to developing a positive and safe driving attitude in the interests of road safety.

MSM is an all inclusive driving school, offering driver training for all ages and skill levels.

About MSM

I am Richard Mann, a retired police officer, having enjoyed an exemplary 30 year career in London and South Yorkshire. I was a Grade 1 police advanced driver for 22 years, trained in road craft, pursuit management and risk assessment at high speed. Since retirement, I have maintained my advanced driving skills, and a member of the Institute of advanced motorists (IAM RoadSmart).

I have always had a passion for driving throughout my career, with the long term ambition of becoming a driving instructor, with the sole intention of preparing safe drivers for our busy road systems. Offering driver training, with the over-arching message of road safety, sensible decision making and respectful driving, post test.

Driving is an important step, and a key life goal, which gives the individual

independence and flexibility, but my ethos is that a good driver is always a safe driver.

From my own experience as a paying parent, I felt I never got to find out what stage my child was at, as there was no feedback or assessment regarding their development. This left me unable to judge what I should practice with my child and what value I was getting for my money.

I now provide a clear and transparent process, offering the customer not only value for money but to be actively involved in the driver's development process.

I will offer a structured training package to suit the drivers level, including theory/hazard perception support, 1 to 1 instruction and mock tests

I offer a collection service from home, school, college, university or work place (within reason)

Offering honest and transparent post lesson feedback in the form of email/text or face to face (if possible), to ensure that everyone knows what has been done, what needs to be done and what can be done to promote student development

Offer honest feedback regarding when the customer is ready to take the practical driving test

Our Services

It is recommended that you have a 1 hour lesson on the day of your driving test.

A 1 hour lesson and the driving test in my vehicle is £75

The Pass plus scheme is aimed at young drivers, which was introduced in 1995 by the Driving Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). The course will take 6 hours (usually covered in and was introduced to enable drivers to drive more safely on our roads, improve driving skills and confidence.

As opposed to taking a test, you will be assessed throughout each module and must complete each module to an 'achieved' or 'exceeded' standard. When you pass the course you will be sent a Pass Plus certificate, which is recognised by insurance companies and depending on the insurance company, the Pass Plus qualification may reduce your insurance costs (please check with your insurer first).

Terms & Conditions

Payments can be in cash or bank transfer

Bank transfers to be made the day before the lesson, to prevent driving time delay

Cancellations will be charged the full lesson fee, with less than 12 hours notice. I expect 24 hours notice to cancel or rearrange your lesson.

If I need to cancel your lesson due to illness or other issue, I will give 24 hours notice.

Should there be a mechanical or tyre issue during the driving lesson, I will ensure that you will be returned safely back to the pick up or drop off point, as soon as possible.

Anyone attending lessons under the influence of alcohol or drugs, then the lesson will be terminated, and customer charged the full lesson fee. All future lessons will be duly cancelled, without refund.
